Current Rural Murals funded by the Maryland State Arts Council Public Arts Across Maryland Projects Under Construction
Our MSAC Public Art Across Maryland Rural Mural projects are designed and painted by local residents. Each project begins with public meetings where community members help shape the content of the artwork by suggesting local stories, people, places, and events.
Using this community input, our lead artist creates line drawings filled with imagery drawn from more than four centuries of Eastern Shore history, culture, and landscape.
The transportable mural panels are then painted by residents at schools, community centers, treatment programs, public events, and other locations across the region.
Current projects include the Galena Rural Mural, which focuses on the history of the Sassafras River watershed and the environmental challenges facing the region today, and the Goldsboro Mural, which explores the agricultural and social history of Upper Caroline County.
The Choptank Tolomato Legacy Project teaches cultural literacy of the Eastern Shore through the arts. The murals we facilitate are designed and created by residents in the communities where the artwork is displayed. The Maryland State Arts Council Public Art Across Maryland program provides funding which allows us to offer these meaningful arts education programs to residents of rural enclaves of the region.
