The Kent Narrows Shantytown Mural is a 6’ x 30’ work of art created by over 300 residents of the Eastern Shore. The project - painted on 18 transportable panels - was spearheaded by members of the Crossroads Community Inc., a behavioral health organization serving residents of Dorchester, Caroline, Talbot, Queen Anne’s, Kent and Cecil Counties. The mural was also painted by students of Radcliffe Creek School, Henry Highland Garnet Elementary School & Church Hill Elementary School. In addition, the three year project traveled to local farmers markets and public festivals where members of the community discussed the history of the shantytowns as they helped to create a lasting image of the vanished community. The mural is currently on display at the Queen Anne’s Museum of Eastern Shore Life.
